When you need to configure your FRITZ!Box for a new connection or to change settings, you need to connect to the device interface.
Connect your device to the FRITZ!Box
You can use any device (PC, laptop, tablet, smartphone) that has a web browser installed (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, etc.).
By ethernet cable
If your PC/laptop has an ethernet port, you can plug it to one of the available LAN ports of the FRITZ!Box.
On Wi-Fi
Check if Wi-Fi is enabled on your FRITZ!Box. If the WLAN led is lit, then Wi-Fi is on. If not, press the WLAN button to activate Wi-Fi signal.
Connect your device to the FRITZ!Box's Wi-Fi network. The default password is printed on the label that you will find on the back of the modem:
Open your web browser
Type the FRITZ!Box's address in the address bar of your browser. By default, it should be reachable on http://fritz.box or http://192.168.178.1. The FRITZ!Box Welcome page should be opened.
If the interface is not reachable
- Check if your ethernet cable is properly connected between your computer and the FRITZ!Box
- Check if your device is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network
- Make sure that mobile data is disabled on your phone/tablet while connecting to the interface on Wi-Fi.
- Try another IP address (10.0.0.1 or 192.168.1.1) or check the default gateway via the command-line interface
Enter the FRITZ!Box password
The default password is printed on the label that you will find on the back of the modem. It's called FRITZ!Box password.
If this password doesn't work because you changed it in the past and you can't remember, you will have to reset the FRITZ!Box to the factory settings. Click on "Forgot your password" and follow the instructions. You can also dial the code #991*15901590* on your fixed phone connected to the FRITZ!Box, if you have one. After the reset, use the default password to access the interface.
